Phoenix Smith is an undergraduate at Central Connecticut State University, majoring in Nursing and minoring in Theater and American Sign Language. Set to graduate in 2027, Phoenix's passion for the arts began in middle school and continued through her one-year half-day program at the Greater Hartford Academy for the Arts. She graduated from New Britain High School, where she played saxophone in the marching band.
Phoenix's dedication to theater includes participating in productions like "Sister Act" and "Encanto." She also played saxophone in the New Britain High School marching band for four years and at Delaware State University with the Approaching Storm saxophone ensemble. Her creative writing experience spans fanfiction, theatrical writing, plays, expressive writing for children, and songwriting.
Her community involvement is extensive. Phoenix has worked with children in the New Britain Parks and Recreation summer camp and afterschool programs. Additionally, she has been involved in youth prevention programs in New Britain, addressing drugs, alcohol, and teen pregnancy. At Phoenix Mental Health Solutions, she mentored children with ADHD, depression, and anxiety, teaching them to express their emotions through creative journaling.
In her spare time, Phoenix enjoys traveling to New York to watch Broadway shows and organizing community performances. She has also volunteered with the Diaspora Multicultural Society, preparing special bags for children during COVID-19, stuffing backpacks for back-to-school events, and volunteering at multicultural fairs.
Phoenix is passionate about creating a safe and inclusive environment for children and is excited to continue her work in mental health and volunteerism. Her journey reflects a deep commitment to the arts, community service, and fostering emotional well-being in young people.
